The light blue lines show the borders of some of the OS Landranger (1:50,000) maps covering the area. (See the text below the map for further details.)

The dark green circles are at 25km and 50km from my home base. Double carriageway roads are shown in red, single carriageway in orange. Urban ureas are light grey. The road data in particular is rather incomplete and out-of-date, but I deemed it better than nothing. The data for roads and urban areas is taken from the the Digital Chart of the World (DCW) developed by the Defence Mapping Agency in the US; this data can be downloaded (by country) from Pennsylvania State University. The map above was generated by a Java program which I wrote specifically for the job.
